Covid-19 Health Protocols in place at theNorth San Diego Certified Farmers Market
through Sunday June 13, 2021

(updated weekly)

In order to serve the public and maintain a heightened level of safety for our vendors and customers, a formal Public Health Protocol has been in place at the North San Diego Certified Farmers Market since March 29, 2020.

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19), we've made changes to some of our policies,
which may affect some of the services we provide.

These protocols may temporarily supersede prior policies.
Please familiarize yourself with the following before coming to the market:
  • If you have a medical condition that prohibits you from wearing a face coveringplease see the Market Managers at the entrance (please do not enter the market selling area without an appropriate mouth/nose covering properly in place); we have protocols available to try to safely accommodate, from a specifically designated area, those who wish to shop with us but are unable to wear a suitable face covering due to medical conditions.
  • Properly worn CLOTH MOUTH/NOSE COVERINGS or SURGICAL MASKS are REQUIRED for all individuals two years old and overMasks must be kept properly worn and in place at all times while in the market selling area.

    • Persons under two years old are exempt from wearing face coverings.
    • Face-shields are not permitted inside the selling area unless worn along with a cloth mouth/nose covering or surgical mask underneath (in accordance with California State guidance).
      • Face-shields worn alone do not keep respiratory droplets from being disbursed into the surrounding air, and can still permit exhaled respiratory droplets to reach others and potentially spread the COVID-19 virus.
    • The CDC DOES NOT recommend the use of masks with Exhalation Valves or Vents.
      • The purpose of covering the mouth/nose properly is to keep respiratory droplets from being disbursed into the surrounding air. Masks with one-way valves or vents can allow exhaled respiratory droplets to reach others and potentially spread the COVID-19 virus.
  • Please DO NOT bring any food or drink into the market area.
  • Our physical distancing and hygiene procedures are posted at the entrance to the Farmers Market.
    • We insist on 6-foot social distancing both inside the market as well as for those waiting to come in, to keep everyone safe.
    • We will be limiting the number of customers admitted into the market area at any one time.
    • Only 1 customer/family unit at a vendor booth at a time.
    • All vendors and market staff will be wearing gloves and mouth and nose coverings. There will be no non-essential personnel on site.
    • We will be frequently cleaning and disinfecting all market equipment and surfaces, and pausing the market hourly to allow all vendors to wash their hands, put on fresh gloves, and wipe down/disinfect their selling space and public surfaces.
    • ALL vendors will have a personal hand-wash station or approved personal sanitizing procedure; there will also be a hand-wash station and hand-sanitizer available to customers at all times while the market is operating.
  • We will be following STRICT health and safety protocols; unfortunately this means some of our regularly scheduled non-food vendors will be temporarily on indefinite hiatus.
  • Offerings are currently limited to:
    • produce from Certified Producers,
    • sealed, prepackaged foods,
    • to-go only” foods from Health Department Permitted Mobile Food Facility units,
    • essential personal products.
  • Please come in and complete your shopping promptly; we will be trying to minimize the amount of time shoppers may have to wait to be admitted into the market.
  • Our market layout is very different from our historical layout; we are working hard to ensure the health and safety of our management team, our vendors and our customers.
  • There will be no sampling and no seating areas.
  • There is only one way in and one way out of the selling area. Please DO NOT enter or exit the selling area by jumping over or crawling under the roped off boundary areas.
  • We are a 100% NO TOUCH MARKET; vendors will assist you with your selections and will utilize tables located in front of their selling space to provide you with your items.
  • There is NO touching of products, tents, vendor tables or vendors, and NO reaching across the yellow tape into a vendor booth.
  • Customers are not permitted along the sides of the vendor booths; shopping and browsing must take place from the front of the vendor booth ONLY, to maintain the 6-foot social distancing between the shopper and vendor.
  • Plan to shop individually, not in groups. If you come to the market as a family unit, whenever possible please designate 1 member of your family unit to come into the market while other family members remain outside the market (and please maintain the 6-foot social distancing from those waiting to come in).
  • YES - You may use your own shopping bags.
Market Opening:
  • Shoppers will NOT be permitted into the market until the market is officially opened by the market managers. If you arrive before the market is opened you will be asked to wait outside the market area, maintaining appropriate 6-foot social distancing; shoppers will be allowed into the market in the order they arrive. The market will be opened as soon as all vendors are set up and have their health protocols ready. We may open before 10:30am if the market is ready to receive shoppers early.
Market Closing:
  • The market will continue to operate AFTER our scheduled closing time of 2:30pm for any customers inside the market selling area, or those already waiting to enter the market AT 2:30pm. Unfortunately if you ARRIVE AFTER 2:30pm, we will be unable to serve you this week.
We ask that visitors to the market observe responsible shopping; stay 6-feet apart; do not touch anyone or anything other than what you have already purchased; no eating of purchased items until you leave the market grounds; wait your turn; be patient and use common sense.
We continue to extend an invitation during the Covid Emergency to any displaced California Certified Producers, or those who may be looking for an additional selling day, to participate in our weekly market (for the long-term or temporarily)  and offer their products for sale here. As a result, shoppers may periodically see guest farmers and some other guest vendors with us as we all adjust to the "new normal" in the Farmers Market community.
  • We accept cash, major credit/debit (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover), and EBT.
  • For a truly contactless experience we accept contactless tap-and-pay (contactless-enabled major credit/debit cards, smartphone pay apps, smart-watch, Apple Watch, Android-Pay, Apple-Pay, Microsoft-Pay, Google-Pay, Samsung-Pay, etc).
  • If paying with cash, consider paying with exact change to eliminate the need for you to handle change back.
The North San Diego Certified Farmers Market has been operating continuously [except March 15 and 22, 2020]  since April 2011. We are certified to operate a Farmers Market by the San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures (CFM0274/AWM2015-DCF-00164) , and we are permitted as a food facility organizer by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health, Food & Housing Division (DEH2010-FTEO-440987). Our host location, on the grounds of the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead, is part of the San Dieguito River Park.
  • A certified farmers' market (CFM) is a location approved by the County Agricultural Commissioner where certified farmers offer for sale only those agricultural products they grow themselves, or products from another certified farmer.
  • The North San Diego Certified Farmers Market IS NOT a “pop-up” marketwe are a fully permitted and regulated Certified Farmers Market.
