Covid-19 Health Protocols in place at theNorth San Diego/Sikes Adobe Certified Farmers Market
for Sunday October 25, 2020

(updated weekly)

Farmers Markets are considered “essential services” by the State of California and the County of San Diego, comparable to brick-and-mortar grocery stores, and are exempt from the “Stay-at-Home” order. In order to serve the public and maintain a heightened level of safety for our vendors and customers, a formal Health Protocol has been put in place at the farmers market.

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19), we've made changes to some of our policies,
which may affect some of the services we provide.

These protocols may temporarily supersede prior policies.
Please familiarize yourself with the following before coming to the market:
  • PLEASE ONLY COME TO THE MARKET IF YOU ARE IN GOOD HEALTH.
  • Properly worn CLOTH MOUTH/NOSE COVERINGS or SURGICAL MASKS are REQUIRED for all individuals two years old and over.
    • Persons under two years old are exempt from wearing face coverings.
    • Face-shields are not permitted inside the selling area unless worn along with a cloth mouth/nose covering or surgical mask underneath (in accordance with California State guidance).
      • Face-shields worn alone do not keep respiratory droplets from being disbursed into the surrounding air, and can still permit exhaled respiratory droplets to reach others and potentially spread the COVID-19 virus.
    • The CDC DOES NOT recommend the use of masks with Exhalation Valves or Vents.
      • The purpose of covering the mouth/nose properly is to keep respiratory droplets from being disbursed into the surrounding air. Masks with one-way valves or vents can allow exhaled respiratory droplets to reach others and potentially spread the COVID-19 virus.
  • If you have a medical condition that prohibits you from wearing a face coveringplease see the Market Managers at the entrance (please do not enter the market selling area without an appropriate mouth/nose covering properly in place); we have protocols available to try to safely accommodate, from a specifically designated area, those who wish to shop with us but are unable to wear a suitable face covering due to medical conditions.
  • NO PETS.
  • PLEASE SHOP SOLO; ONE SHOPPER PER HOUSEHOLD/FAMILY UNIT when possible.
  • NO SOCIALIZING OR GATHERING.
  • NO EATING OR DRINKING INSIDE THE MARKET.
  • Please DO NOT bring any food or drink into the market area.
  • NO EATING OR DRINKING OF ANY PURCHASED PRODUCTS WITHIN THE MARKET AREA.
  • Our physical distancing and hygiene procedures are posted at the entrance to the Farmers Market.
    • We insist on 6-foot social distancing both inside the market as well as for those waiting to come in, to keep everyone safe.
    • We will be limiting the number of customers admitted into the market area at any one time.
    • Only 1 customer/family unit at a vendor booth at a time.
    • All vendors and market managers will be wearing gloves and mouth and nose coverings. There will be no non-essential personnel on site.
    • We will be frequently cleaning and disinfecting all market equipment and surfaces, and pausing the market hourly to allow all vendors to wash their hands, put on fresh gloves, and disinfect their selling space.
    • ALL vendors will have a personal hand-wash station or approved personal sanitizing procedure; there will also be a hand-wash station and hand-sanitizer available to customers at all times while the market is operating.
  • We will be following STRICT health and safety protocols, and unfortunately some of our regularly scheduled non-food vendors will be temporarily on hiatus.
  • Offerings will be limited to :
    • produce from Certified Producers,
    • sealed, prepackaged foods,
    • “to-go only” foods from Health Department Permitted Mobile Food Facility units,
    • essential personal products.
  • Please come in and complete your shopping promptly; we will be trying to minimize the amount of time shoppers may have to wait to be admitted into the market.
  • Our market looks very different from our historical layout, as we are working to ensure the health and safety of our management team, our vendors and our customers.
  • There will be no sampling and no seating areas.
  • There is only one way in and one way out of the selling area. Please DO NOT enter or exit the selling area by jumping over or crawling under the roped off boundary areas.
  • We are a NO TOUCH MARKET; vendors will assist you with your selections.
  • There is NO touching of products, tents, vendor tables or vendors, and NO reaching across the yellow tape into a vendor booth.
  • Customers are not permitted along the sides of the vendor booths; shopping and browsing must take place from the front of the vendor booth ONLY, to maintain the 6-foot social distancing between the shopper and vendor.
  • Plan to shop individually, not in groups. Customers will be admitted to the market one-by-one, even if you arrive together. If you come to the market as a family unit, whenever possible please designate 1 member of your family unit to come into the market while other family members remain outside the market (and please maintain the 6-foot social distancing from those waiting to come in).
  • YES - You may use your own shopping bags.
Market Opening:
  • Shoppers will NOT be permitted into the market until the market is officially opened by the market managers. If you arrive before the market is opened you will be asked to wait outside the market area, maintaining appropriate 6-foot social distancing; shoppers will be allowed into the market in the order they arrive. The market will be opened as soon as all vendors are set up and have their health protocols ready. We may open before 10:30am if the market is ready to receive shoppers early.
Market Closing:
  • The market will continue to operate AFTER our scheduled closing time of 3:30pm for any customers inside the market selling area, or those already waiting to enter the market AT 3:30pm. Unfortunately if you ARRIVE AFTER 3:30pm, we will be unable to serve you this week.
Please note that we can ONLY remain open if visitors to the market observe responsible shopping; stay 6-feet apart; do not touch anyone or anything other than what you have purchased; no eating of purchased items until you leave the market grounds; wait your turn; be patient and use common sense.
With some San Diego County Certified Farmers Markets still on hiatus, we have extended an invitation to displaced California Certified Producers to join our market temporarily and sell their products here. As a result, you may see guest farmers and some other guest vendors with us until their usual weekly Certified Farmers Markets reopen.
  • We accept cash, credit/debit, and EBT.
  • For a truly contactless experience we accept any form of contactless tap-and-pay (contactless-enabled credit cards, smartphone pay apps, apple watch, etc).
  • If paying with cash, consider paying with exact change to eliminate the need for you to handle change back.
